Ben found me on Google a few weeks before the date and reached out with a clear vision. He wanted Christopher Columbus Park — the wisteria trellis specifically. We planned the whole thing together over the next couple weeks: the timing, the route, where I'd be hidden so Ally wouldn't spot me.

Ben found me on Google a few weeks before the date and reached out with a clear vision and a lot of nerves. He wanted Christopher Columbus Park — the wisteria trellis specifically, even though it was a little early in the season for the blooms. We planned the whole thing together over the next couple weeks: where I'd be hidden, what time the light would hit just right, how he'd guide Ally there without making her suspicious. By the time the day came, we both knew the plan inside out. He brought her to the park for what felt like a casual afternoon walk, and the moment he stopped under the trellis, I was already in position. She had no idea I was there until it was over — and the look on her face when she figured it out is one of my favorite frames of the year.
